Tackling Backblaze power and wiring issues

Posted: February 19, 2010 in Backblaze, emerging technology

Here are some images from the process we are using to power our Backblaze pods. We are making the power harnesses in house from a slightly modified parts and tools list posted earlier which will be updated soon. We have jumpered the second supply and powered half of the drive bay area to address drive dropping troubles in RAID set creation and sustainability. This was retrofitted into our first two pods which is why we have 2 1200W supplies. This is way overkill but we had the parts on hand and timing was tight. The next two revs will include two 650W supplies which is reasonably over powered for what we need but not so ridiculous.  Ampacity issues were addressed in the previous power harness configuration and have been addressed.  Expect a post about that soon. It theoretically is now possible to sustain higher power drives if needed or wanted.
